Sanbona Wildlife Reserve – Gondwana Family Lodge
Gondwana Family Lodge is a 5 * luxury bush escape and is suitable for couples, families or groups of friends. The lodge is situated within Sanbona Wildlife Reserve in the Klein Karoo approximately 3 hours drive from Cape Town International Airport.
We stayed there for two nights and all the staff were very warm, welcoming and professional and ensured all our needs were attended to. The lodge rooms were spacious and offered good views over the reserve towards Bellair Dam.
Our ranger for the duration of our stay was Nico who was very knowledgeable and passionate about the environment and ensured that we had as many good sightings as possible. I did find that game was generally scarce but this is to be expected as the landscape is generally arid and at the time of our visit they were also struggling with the on-going drought.
Kids are well catered for in the kids’ center where they are kept busy with an array of activities during the day including the kids on safari programme.
The food is out of this world and you certainly will have to forget any notion of watching what you eat while there.
The average rates are quite steep so it’s definitely a “Bucket List” destination but keep an eye out for seasonal specials.
It’s well worth a visit.
