Hit the Road, Jack!

It’s holiday time. But to guarantee you reach your destination safely and without any hitches, ensure your vehicle is in shape before you hit the tar.

Some of us have done the unthinkable, and failed to prepare our vehicles adequately before embarking on a holiday trip. And hands up anybody who doesn’t know someone whose loadedup car has ground to a halt 100km from home, spoiling an entire holiday.

To avoid this disastrous scenario, vital checks and balances should be carried out before setting off on your long-awaited break. And certain rules MUST be borne in mind.

Some are pretty basic - although many motorists ignore them.

> Book your vehicle for a full service before you go. However, if you’ve recently done that, or you run out of time, at least heed the advice of our experts, like tyre geniuses Goodyear, who emphasise the importance of ensuring your tyres (including your spare) are correctly inflated and that the treads are in good condition. Tread depth should be at least 1.6mm, which is the legal minimum, by the way.
